The Island

The Island

Formentera is the smallest inhabited island in the Balearic archipelago, located 11 miles from the south-eastern coast of Ibiza. Because it is a small island, it doesn't have an airport, so it can only be reached by boat. Formentera is very different from the other Balearic Islands, looking more like one of the Greek Islands. The island's treasure are its beaches. Formentera boasts miles of gorgeous, white sandy beaches, along with crystal clear seawater with exceptional diversity of marine life and excellent underwater visibility perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling. The island is best known for the fact that nude sunbathing is allowed on most of the island's beautiful beaches. Formentera is a perfect spot for the ones who want to relax in a quite beauty.

Beaches

Beaches

The biggest attraction of the island are its natural, white sandy beaches streching in an unspoiled lansdcape, which gives them a real Caribbean feeling. The beaches are covered with umbrella pine, instead of palm trees such as Ibiza.

The busiest of all Formentera's beaches is Playa Illetes, due to its close proximity to the port La Savina. Its white sand is stretching along the nortern tip of the island. Clean azure waters makes it perfect spot for scuba diving or snorkeling.

Cala Saona has something rarely seen in coastal landscapes. This small, deep horseshoe shaped bay's sandy beach, located on the west coast of Formentera, is backed by red rocks. Clear turquoise water is quite shallow, so it gets warm very fast.
